The Healing Practice
Quick Anger Test
Anger acts on inner emotion and is not planned action. Anger is easy to show: everyone gets angry.
The feelings underlying the anger reaction make us feel vulnerable and weak; anger makes us feel, at least momentarily, strong and in control.
Angry behaviours are learned over the life-span and therefore can be unlearned and replaced with healthier patterns of coping.
Anger can be an immediate reaction to an isolated event or it can be a response after numerous events.
To repress anger is unhealthy and yet to express it impulsively, although that may give momentary relief - inevitably carries negative results.
To alter angry responses, it is necessary to understand where anger originates.
There are a variety of learned factors that increase the probability of anger reactions. You:
have seen your parents or figures in authority get angry first, then resolve the issue. You are more likely to use that same approach.
are frustrated and feel stressed, more irritable and likely to react with anger - the explosion makes you feel better for the moment.
are tired and pre-occupied, you are more prone to burst out and get a result.
hold your feelings inside rather than talk about them, your angry outbursts seem to give you authority over the situation.
A little anger can motivate you to take action and consideration in positive ways. It is an ALERT signal.
A lot of anger will make you "red with rage" and stop you in your tracks - it destroys goodwill and respect.
Out of control anger drives away those you love, makes you feared for your lack of self-discipline, and endangers your daily normal existence.
